Auto accidents tend to occur in bunches from time to time, and unfortunately for many people, that appears to be what occurred over the weekend in Houston. The first Alaska auto accident occurred on Saturday night, and the second took place on Sunday morning, and both accidents required immediate and intense responses from area rescue workers. Fortunately, no one was killed, but six people were injured in the crashes and sent to the hospital for further care.
The first Alaska auto accident of the weekend took place just before 9 p.m. on Saturday when Kasey McGee, 18, of Kenai was driving a Chevrolet sedan northbound on the Parks Highway. For some reason, his vehicle crossed the center line and collided head-on with a GMC pickup that was being driven by an 18-year-old Wasilla resident. One person was airlifted to a nearby hospital and three others were transported there with varying degrees of injuries.
The second Alaska auto accident that occurred in the area over the weekend took place just before 9 a.m. on Sunday. This incident was a one-vehicle accident that took place near Zero Lake Road, at about Mile 58 Parks Highway. The vehicle was discovered in a ditch by Houston rescue workers. Three more people were taken to the hospital, including one who could not move below the waist at the time. No one was killed.
