Man Arrested After Suspected Anchor Point DUI Accident

E-mail

Drinking and driving is illegal for many reasons, and the most obvious is because engaging in this conduct places anyone in the area of the vehicle being driven by someone who has consumed alcohol or any other intoxicant in a position of extreme danger.  While nothing has been proven yet, police suspect that alcohol was a factor in an alleged Anchor Point car accident that injured the vehicle’s passenger.  The driver also fled the scene and was arrested.  He could face several charges.

According to authorities, this suspected Anchor Point DUI accident occurred at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Sunday when Fedor Sevastain Gostevskyh, 32, was driving a Honda on North Fork Road when it skidded into a snow bank and flipped over twice.  The vehicle ultimately landed upside-down, and a female passenger in the vehicle was thrown from it and injured.  The driver fled the scene but was arrested later at his home.  He faces potential charges of third-degree assault, drunken driving, refusing to submit to a breath- alcohol test, leaving the scene of an injury accident, and violating his probation for felony eluding arrest.

Clearly, the suspect in this case faces a slew of serious criminal charges.  In addition, he could face an Alaska personal injury lawsuit if the injured passenger chooses to initiate such a filing.  However, it’s apparent that she was not wearing a seat belt, which means that any filed claim would be examined under Alaska’s standard for comparative negligence that assigns a percentage of fault to each party.
