Alaska Ranks First In United States For Accidental Death Rate

E-mail

Alaska is a state that attracts residents and visitors alike for its adventurous qualities, its breathtaking beauty and its separation from the rat race that dominates the lower 48.  People who live and visit here do so with the full knowledge that life here is unlike life anywhere else in the United States.  While there are many positives that come with that reality, there are also many negatives, and one of those negatives was recently publicized by the federal government.

That negative involves accidental deaths.  In a recent survey of statistics regarding these accidental deaths, Alaska ranked first in the United States with an accidental death rate of between 54 and 57 people per 100,000 residents.  That rate is higher than the next three states on the list, which include Arizona, Mississippi and New Mexico.

There are many causes of accidental deaths, and examples of them include accidents with animals, drowning, hypothermia and of course Alaska car accidents, Alaska motorcycle accidents, Alaska snowmachine accidents and Alaska plane accidents.  These accidents may not be any more severe on average than accidents that occur somewhere else, but given the remote quality of the state overall and the lack of nearby emergency help, what could otherwise be an accident that only results in injury will often result in death for those who are involved in these incidents.

Alaska Wrongful Death Lawyers

Clearly, not all accidental deaths in Alaska involve the negligence or recklessness of another person.  However, many of them do, and those who are killed for these reasons often leave behind family members who are unsure of what to do for help.  In many situations, when a family files an Alaska wrongful death lawsuit against the person or people responsible for this tragic result, they can recover damages that compensate them for their losses, both past and in the future.

If you have lost someone you love in an accident, you need to seek the help of Alaska wrongful death lawyers who have been fighting on behalf of grieving families for many years.  Contact Barber & Banker today to schedule a free initial consultation.
