Alaska Plane Crashes Down in Volume, Up in Fatalities

E-mail

Anyone who lives and works in Alaska understands that air travel is not only common in terms of how people get around the state, but in many cases it’s a necessity.  There are many places in the state that simply cannot be reached in any other way, which unfortunately means that Alaska plane crashes can and do occur on a regular basis. However, word has recently been released regarding the number of Alaska plane crashes that occurred in 2010, and these statistics are recorded, tracked and compiled by the Federal Aviation Administration, or the FAA.  Overall, the news regarding these incidents was mixed, as the number of Alaska plane crashes came down from previous years, but the number of fatalities rose.  The FAA also released other statistics regarding Alaska plane crashes that shed a bit of light on the causes of these accidents.

Alaska Plane Crash Statistics

Clearly, any Alaska plane crash that takes place is a cause for concern or worse, as the majority of them lead to at least one injury.  Specifically, there are a total of 95 Alaska plane crashes last year, and 11 of these crashes were fatal.  Of those 11 fatal crashes, a total of 16 people were killed as a result.  In addition, approximately 85 percent of crashes are the result of pilot error.  These statistics take all types of flights into account, including commercial and private vessels and the problems they encounter.
